Description |
Sepher Torah, from Germany, saved from destruction by Louis Kleeman, on Kristallnacht in Nazi Germany, Nov. 9, 1938 in the town of Gaukoenighshofen in Bavaria. Viewed by Rabbi Menachem Youlus, sofer STA"M of the Jewish Bookstore of Greater Washington, June 2002: "I have reviewed Torah $.041, Kleeman. This Torah is of German origin. It has a ktav of Bet Yosef, but unlike the first two Torahs I reviewed [see related items], this sofer has a flair for style. His crowns and elongation of some lettering seem to point to the work of a master sofer. At approximately 125 years old, this Torah does need some repairs but is in fair shape. It can be made kosher. Number 4 parchment was used and everything about this Torah seems to conform with the customs of the Ashkenazic community. The exact scripe is still a mystery to me at this time but I have several prospects. ... We have registered this Torah using infrared stamping (8805761) as well as the finger printing system" which, though he does not specify, incidates that this is registered as a Holocaust Torah. |
